Overnight Courier Fraud
Often customers will utilize the shipping services of a courier or delivery company such as FedEx, Airborne Express, DHL, or United Parcel to deliver packages. The customer will be charged a fee for the cost of delivering the package by a specified day (or time of day). The faster the requested delivery, the higher the cost. The customer is often given the option to "insure" the package, at an additional cost.
Shipment Insurance: Many times, however, the delivery service (although not an insurer) accepts your "insurance" payment, but never purchases the insurance. By doing so, the delivery service has accepted from you a fee (the additional insurance charge) for a service that it never provides, i.e. the delivery service never actually pays your additional insurance fee to any insurer.
Timed Shipping: Even though you have selected a target date (or time of day) for delivery of your package, and even though you have paid a higher fee in order to expedite a faster delivery, it nevertheless sometimes happens that your delivery is late. By making the delivery late, the delivery service has actually breached its promise to deliver your package on time, and as a result, has overcharged you for the delivery service.
