SHELTER INSURANCE COMPANIES "MEDPAY"
Littleton v. Shelter Insurance Companies. The case challenged Shelter's use of allegedly biased third party vendors to review and adjust first-party claims for payment/reimbursement of medical expenses submitted by insureds as the result of automobile accidents. These medical payment claims are submitted under the insurance policy's medical payment ("Medpay") provision and/or personal injury protection ("PIP") coverage.
The parties have settled the case with Shelter agreeing to pay class members 100% of the amount by which Shelter reduced and/or denied their medical payment claim. Shelter has also agreed to pay policyholders $1.00 per year for each year that a class member was insured by Shelter and to reform their claims adjusting practices. The Court has preliminarily approved the settlement. TRAVELERS INSURANCE "MEDPAY"
Ragan v. Travelers Property Casualty Corp., et al. The case challenged Travelers' use of allegedly biased third party vendors to review and adjust first-party claims for payment/reimbursement of medical expenses submitted by insureds as the result of automobile accidents. These claims are submitted under the insurance policy's medical payment ("Medpay") provision and/or personal injury protection ("PIP") coverage.
The parties have settled the case with Travelers agreeing to pay class members 50% of the amount by which their medical payment was reduced and/or denied, up to $11 million. Travelers has also agreed to revise and reform their claims adjusting practices. The Court has preliminarily approved the settlement.
